Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 2nd May 2025.

CALVES

“64 through the little ring, selling to £1340 x5.”
Rearing calves sold to £880 for British Blue bulls from CR&A Baxter, Morecambe with Aberdeen Angus from this home close behind at £860. Other Aberdeen Angus sold to £820 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Younger five week old types to £740 and £720 for British Blues from SH&M Batty, Quernmore.
Heifer calves sold to £780 and £740 for British Blues from CR&A Baxter, Morecambe with Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale reaching £710 for the same goods. Younger sorts saw Charolais to £530 and British Blues to £520 at thirty days old from T&CM Kelsall, Chipping.
Stirks sold to £1340 for a pen of four Aberdeen Angus bullocks from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh with British Blues from this home to the same price. Aberdeen Angus heifers also from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh reached £1060, with younger Montbéliard bullocks from JR Newsham next at £960.

STORE CATTLE

Store cattle forward in larger numbers at Lancaster today.
Bullocks sold to £2580 for a British Blue from WT Eastham, Goosnargh with Limousin close behind at £2550 from WA Hodgson, Kendal. Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £2520 x2 from KH&D Holden & Son, Pilling. Charolais sold to £2500 from WA Hodgson, Whinfell while a ring full of Shorthorns reached £2380 from J Drinkall, Chorley. Black and white bullocks topped at £2220 for a pen of six from LE&A Ridding, Selside, with 94 more achieving over £2000.
Heifers sold to £2250 firstly for Charolais from R&DJ Holmes, Cockerham with a further five Limousin at £2250 from A&MI Robinson, Orton. British Blues sold to £2200 from KH&D Holden, Pilling whilst Aberdeen Angus sold to £2180 on four occasions from L Parson, Levens x2 and TD&V Whitaker, Winmarleigh x2. A further 28 sold over £2000.

CAST / OTM CATTLE

The weekly sale of OTM cattle at Lancaster saw an entry of 60 cattle, with many vendors taking advantage of the dry weather taking first crop silo. Today saw trade sharper on the week.
Cast bulls from RHM&S Boyren, Colton achieved top price per head for a Limousin at £2630. Other beef bred bulls sold to £2195 from J&A Smales for a Charolais.
Friesian cows topped at £2389 from W&S Airey, Carnforth with other cows at £2107 from T Taylor, Preston. Beef bred cows continue to be a strong trade, with A&P Hodkinson, Stalmine achieving £2379 or 339.5p/kg for a Limousin, with B&SE Carter, Ellel not far behind at 329.5p/kg or £2135, also for a Limousin.
Beef bred OTM heifers from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe saw Herefords sell to £2336 or 364.5p/kg and British Blues to £2310 or 384.5p/kg. Friesian OTMs looked well sold today, with SH&M Batty & Son, Quernmore achieving £1971 or 309.5p/kg, with other Friesian heifers from W&S Airey, Carnforth at 309.5p/kg.
Just a couple of cast steers in the sale today saw TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe at 379.5p/kg or £2353 for an Angus, with British Blues from JDEM JA Atkinson, Kendal sell to £2311or 379.5p/kg.
An overall market average of 279p/.kg was achieved, with OTM cows today averaging 261p/kg, heifers 304p/kg, steers 382p/kg and cast bulls 252p/kg.
Buyers are requesting more cattle for next weeks sale.
